Empowering Clean Energy Communities

Connecticut has a great way to connect skilled volunteers and residents to local energy planning and policy efforts: the Clean Energy Task Force. There are more than 60 task forces across the state. Clean Water provides problem solving and leadership support for these groups.

We help the local leaders who are motivated, but not necessarily technical experts - from the social worker in Westport persuading her local government to set a goal of 100% renewables by 2050, to the retired police officer in Enfield identifying the best technologies to “buy” with incentive points that the town has earned through the state’s EnergizeCT program.

To ensure the task forces can succeed, Clean Water partners with the financing and incentive programs of Connecticut Light and Power and United Illuminating, along with the Connecticut Green Bank. The Utility programs and the Green Back focus on basic strategies, plans and performance metrics, while Clean Water supports local volunteers to help achieve their goals.

Our one on one coaching helps towns form new Task Forces or build political support for existing ones. And we build capacity through statewide workshops, webinars, peer to peer support, and a listserv along with a with a web portal for sharing resources, case studies and best practices.
