Trump's Budget Proposal: Just What Polluters Needed

Monday, February 12, 2018

Washington, D.C. - The Trump administration today released its proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2019. It is very similar to the 2018 proposal. The proposed budget includes a 23% cut to Environmental Protection Agency budget and deep reductions for other federal agencies. If enacted the deep cuts could force EPA to reduce staff, shut down programs, and undermine important protections for clean water and public health.

Clean Water Action President and CEO Bob Wendelgass released the following response:

"This is a dangerous proposal that would put our health, water, and communities at risk if Congress ever acted on it. Luckily, it's likely that even this Congress will reject this ridiculous 23% cut in EPA's budget. It seems that the President and his advisors picked through the trash of their worst ideas and rejected proposals, repackaged them, and hoped no one would notice. It's fitting that Valentine's day is this week ─ this budget is a love letter to big polluters from a not-so-secret admirer."

Since our founding during the campaign to pass the landmark Clean Water Act in 1972, Clean Water Action has worked to win strong health and environmental protections by bringing issue expertise, solution-oriented thinking and people power to the table. We will protect clean water in the face of attacks from a polluter friendly Administration and Congress.
