Originally from New México, Maureo was introduced to the environmental justice movement in high school, and spent time organizing around clean energy replacement in communities of color. He helped campaign to increase the State's renewable energy portfolio and conducted public education to highlight the financial inefficiency and environmental hazards associated with the state's largest energy provider.
Maureo joined Clean Water Action in 2016, beginning as a canvasser and then Massachusetts Drinking Water Advocate. In that role, Maureo built and improved lead service line replacement programs in EJ communities by creating public education events, mobilizing grassroots power, and working directly with municipalities. He then served as State Co-Director until 2024.
