Join Clean Water Action as a Field Canvass Director and lead powerful, people-driven campaigns to protect our environment and communities. You'll build and inspire a team of canvassers, train future leaders, and take direct action that makes a real impact. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role for someone who thrives on organizing, motivating others, and creating change. You’ll manage daily operations, shape strategy, and still hit the streets to lead by example. Responsibilities
• Recruit, hire, and train staff to exceed campaign and staffing goals.
• Coach and develop emerging leaders into Trainers and Field Managers.
• Canvass 1–2 days per week to stay connected to the field and support team performance.
• Build an office culture grounded in mission, accountability, and equity.
• Oversee office budget, manage expenses, and meet specific fiduciary goals.
• Monitor fundraising performance and ensure net-positive campaign outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records and reports, following organizational administrative systems and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with data, payroll, and logistical systems.
• Collaborate with senior staff to represent and execute the organization’s political and strategic priorities.
• Attend key program and planning meetings and play an active role in decision-making.
• Take on evolving responsibilities based on office needs, campaign schedules, skills, and interests.
• Develop and follow a written staff development plan in partnership with supervisors.
• Uphold Clean Water Action’s values of justice and equity.
• Participate in Cultural Competency and Anti-Racism training.
• Lead a team reflective of and accountable to the communities we serve.
•A passion for tackling the most pressing issues of our time, for social and environmental justice, and for growing and strengthening the grassroots movement to protect clean water.
•Experience in managing and leading teams.
•Exceptional canvassing performance and passion for direct action.
•Proven experience developing leaders and managing diverse teams.
•Strong public speaking, coaching, and communication skills.
•Time management, budgeting, and organizational savvy.
•Ability to write and execute office plans, systems, and performance metrics.
•Demonstrated success in training, supervision, and cross-team collaboration.
•Skilled in administrative systems including payroll, recruitment chains, and fundraising reports.
•At least two completed cross-trains and previous Canvass Director coverage.
•Ability to remain calm, accountable, and solutions-focused under pressure.
•Strong recommendation from two Canvass Directors and approval from senior network leadership.
•Commitment to a minimum two-year assignment (three preferred).
• Willingness to travel or relocate to support organizational staffing needs.
• Driving is an essential function of this role; candidates must be comfortable driving during work hours.
• This position requires a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, as regular travel between field
• Ability to safely operate a vehicle daily to transport staff and materials to canvassing locations.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license alongside a clean driving record (no DUIs, reckless driving, or major violations in the past 3 years).
