Welcome to Clean Water on the Move, your monthly update from Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund in New Jersey. Take a look at what our amazing staff has been up to and what is coming in the month ahead. Thanks for your ongoing support for our work towards a healthy environment for all.
Civic Engagement and State House Action
On November 17th, Clean Water Action, EmpowerNJ, and other coalition partners organized our biggest action yet in Trenton. Over 200 people from across the state turned out in support of the Climate Superfund Act. Clean Water Action’s Environmental Advocate Molly Cleary was among those who spoke at the State House rally. We also saw the Senate Commerce Committee unanimously pass S3669, a bill limiting PFAS in menstrual products. This day was truly one of the wins for Clean Water action-takers!
The State House was not the only place where the public was heard loud and clear. NJ voters turned out in record numbers (over 50%) to cast their ballot for Clean Water Action’s pro-environmental candidates from Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill to Assembly legislators to town council. Voting is a fundamental element of civic engagement. Holding them accountable to our issues once in office is essential to a sustained democracy. So excited that our very own Environmental Advocate, Molly Cleary, was appointed to the Governor-elects transition team.
Fast Breaking news: On December 1, a bill (A5260) banning PFAS in clothing apparel unanimously passed out of Assembly Committee. Help us move all 3 PFAS bills by taking action here.
Climate Superfund Act now has 41 Assembly and 18 Senate co-sponsors. Contact your legislators here and local officials here to help put it on the governor’s desk for his signature!
Thank You for Walking the Talk: Beauty Justice in Action
On November 1, community members gathered at Weequahic Park for Walk the Talk: Beauty Justice & Breast Health—a powerful morning of movement, learning, and solidarity honoring survivors and advancing beauty justice. From the guided walk and yoga warm-up to education stations and the resource fair, your presence helped deepen conversations at the intersection of environmental health, breast cancer, and corporate accountability.

Fighting for Better Freight and Goods Movement
Clean Water Action held a Port Tour on December 13th. Attendees were able to learn more about NJ’s Goods Movement and its everyday impacts! This tour went through last-mile warehouses and one of the busiest ports in the country - Port of Newark. As part of NJ's Freight & Goods Movement Campaign, this event allowed participants to understand the connection between shopping online, the role that both ports and warehouses play in the Goods Movement industry, air pollution and how to take action to achieve zero emission practices in the industry. Stay tuned for more information on the event!
Zero Waste Initiatives Reduce Toxic Exposure and Save Money
Through the power of education, Skip the Stuff is sweeping NJ! People are learning through our case studies that plastic is a burden on our health, environment and wallets. As a result, the Garden State now has 40 Skip the Stuff municipal ordinances and growing! At the state level, S3195/A5157 has great momentum towards passage and being the strongest bill in the country, but we need your help. Marta Young, Clean Water Action’s NJ Zero Waste Specialist, is leading this effort while also advising several other states with their efforts to Skip the Stuff. Together, we are stronger in our fight to reduce production, use and exposure to harmful plastics.
