Mid-Michigan Campaign Organizer
Dr. Nichole Keway Biber is a tribal citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (Waganakising Odawa), and is part of the Turtle Clan (Mishiike Dodem). Her family currently resides in East Lansing, where she earned her PhD in English from MSU. Nichole began working for Clean Water Action as the Mid-Michigan Campaign Organizer in September of 2023, in a continuation of her efforts as a Water Protector to Shut Down Line 5. She is motivated to help stand against all such threats to traditional lifeways and the well-being of every community in the Great Lakes water basin and beyond.
Nichole has a long history as a grassroots environmental activist. Focusing on the restoration of biodiversity, from plants to pollinators to animals, she also leads the Wolf and Wildlife Preservation Team for the Michigan Anishinaabek Caucus. As a jingle dress dancer and mother of three children, she is determined to fulfill her small role in our collective responsibility to choose a path of renewal at this critical juncture in our human relationship to the living planet.
Nichole has no pets, but dearly loves the frogs on the milkweed and the birds in the bird bath who visit her family’s extensive home garden. Her favorite season is Biboon, the winter, when the quiet snow falls, birds continue to visit the seedheads, and the little ones sleep under a blanket of fallen leaves.
