With Special Guest Chef Tu David Phu
Chef Tu David Phu, recognized as a San Francisco Chronicle Rising Star Chef, is a two-time TEDx speaker, Top Chef alumnus, acclaimed cookbook author, and storyteller. Growing up in Oakland, he began his culinary journey in his mother’s apartment garden, ultimately advancing to some of the nation’s top kitchens. His path has brought him to GiGi's, a Vietnamese-inspired wine bar in San Francisco, and inspired his Emmy-nominated PBS film Bloodline.

Our “Silver Lining” award goes to the Greenaction Youth Environmental Justice Leaders!
With a focus on clean water and environmental justice in frontline communities affected by hazardous waste and contaminated water supplies, Greenaction youth are showing us hope in action. Greenaction works in communities across California, including Kettleman City. Here, the mostly-Latinx youth have been particularly inspiring, recently speaking at state hearings about water contamination and health impacts.

John Arthur Jones III is the “Ear to the Ground” award winner!
John is a third generation East Oaklander and father of three who has worked tirelessly for those in his community who, like himself, are formerly incarcerated and have experienced being unsheltered and unemployed. He has received numerous awards for his work and was also featured in NBC Bay Area’s “No Man’s Land” docuseries covering the challenges of single fatherhood, which received a Peabody Award.
We at ReThink Disposable are particularly grateful for John’s contributions to our program. His deep roots in Oakland has opened doors for our team to connect with restaurant owners in East Oakland and throughout the city.

Councilmember Igor Tregub is the winner of the “Takes the Heat” award!
Aside from his recent election to the Berkeley City Council, Igor is a National Board Member for Sierra Club, serves as the Chair of the Alameda County Democratic Party, and sat on the Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board for 8 years. He is a fierce advocate for healthy and resilient communities and works with a variety of different groups and organizations, such as Reimagine Power, to fight for renewable energy solutions that benefit renters and all who have been historically left out of the clean energy transition.
And if that’s not enough, Igor spends his free time organizing to bring distributed solar and storage and energy democracy through the deployment of an Energy Security Marshall Plan to his homeland of Ukraine.
